National Hunting and Fishing Day

September 26th is . . . National Hunting and Fishing Day.

We live in a very rural area. While we are not hunters, we are surrounded by those who are. We run our beagles all the time on rabbits, but we don’t carry guns and don’t shoot or kill anything. We also like to go fishing, but apparently, I’m not very good at it, because out of the last 4 times I’ve gone, I haven’t caught a single fish! We just love being outdoors in nature. There’s nothing else quite like it.

I make custom quilts for hunters and horse lovers — no two are ever alike — and when I am working on one, I try to incorporate elements specific to the person who will be receiving it, and elements related to their chosen sport. For instance, if they’re a goose hunter, I’ll use lots of Flying Geese units, or a Goose in the Pond block somewhere in their quilt.

Nat'l Hunting and Fishing DayFor the one I am currently working on, I’ve drawn a Pine Tree for applique, so in honor of National Hunting and Fishing Day, I’m offering the block pattern free to anyone who wants it. Here’s a picture of my sample block, and you can download the block pattern here: Free Patterns.

  1. Thanks for the pine tree pattern; I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, and my trees always look like lopsided victims of some pine needle eating plague! So, thanks!

  2. Thank you for the free pattern. This tree is adorable.
