Weekly Challenge – Jan. 15

So how did you all do on your Weekly Challenges? Did you get some things done? I managed to at least do what I said I would, which was finish some blanket stitching and work on the cat quilt. All the blanket stitching is now finished on all 16 of those blocks, and I hope to be able to show you the finished quilt real soon.

Here’s what I got done on the Stairway to Cat Heaven quilt:

I was right — I do NOT like my sky, but at this point, I ain’t changin’ it. My cats don’t show up real well, but then, it makes sense that black cats are hard to see in the dark. I myself tripped over Miss Kitty in the dark last night — how much more proof do you need? I think it’s realistic . . .

I still have more cats to attach, and outer borders to do, and I’m not sure what I’ll do with this quilt when it’s done, but I’m forging ahead anyway.

Let’s see . . . what will I commit to for next week? I’m participating in JudyL’s Quiltathon this weekend, and one whole day of it will be spent on Community Service quilts at my friend, Rose Marie’s house — her yearly Community Service work day. So I will say that I intend to finish at least 2 Community Service quilt tops. I’m doing the cutting today, so I can set right in sewing when I get to Rose Marie’s tomorrow morning. I’m not committing to having them quilted in the next week, just to having at least 2 tops done and ready for quilting. We don’t have to turn them in until June, so I’ll have plenty of time to quilt them later on (maybe on June 1st!).

My Cowboy and I are possibly going to be out and about on a road trip, too, so I won’t be home much. (Hmm . . . that means I’d better balance my checkbook and locate my Quilter’s Travel Companion!) I’d like to say I’ll finish some handwork, so I’m going to commit to finishing at least one, if not two, of my Pay It Forward gifts. They’re so close to done, it won’t take much to finish them, and since they’re handwork, they’ll make good traveling projects. I can’t show you pictures of them, cuz I want my recipients to be surprised when they get their gifts!

So . . . what are YOU doing for your Weekly Challenge this week? I suggest joining JudyL’s Quiltathon — it’ll give you lots of time for quilting, so you can get a lot done. Leave me a comment and let me know what you’ll be working on. Your ideas inspire me . . .

  1. I finished two flannel eye-spy quilt tops. I am just doing the tops for now because the 5-inch squares were outgrowing their space. So, I finished the “girl” version this morning and will fold the tops and put them away waiting for someone to have a baby. The nice thing about finished tops is that they can become a quilt very quickly in an emergency.

Is it cheating to call a finished top a finished project if that is all you intended to do?

Ps–I just re-read this and noticed that I managed to use the word “finished” five times. Obsession? Pride? Surprise? Hmmm….

  2. I finished re-piecing my swap quilt and quilted it. Now just to bind it and it’s in the mail on monday! So I did good.

  3. I just posted my week’s challenges on my blog…I’m thinking positive.
