Celebrate Christmas

Today it’s my turn! Woohoo! Welcome, everyone!

It’s time for my block in the Quilting Gallery’s Celebrate Christmas Quilt-Along.

If you haven’t been playing along with this, you are definitely missing out. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for 12 weeks, a different free block pattern is offered up by a different designer, for a total of 36 free block patterns in all!

Each day when a block is posted, Super Deals for Quilters are also offered. You can get some really fantastic bargains on fabric and other quilting goodies . . . you shouldn’t be missing those.

And . . . yes, there’s more . . . if you make the blocks and post them in the Celebrate Christmas Quilt-Along Flickr Group, you get a chance to win some buttons from Button Mad. They’re randomly giving away a set of buttons for every block! But you have to make your block and post it to be eligible, so get busy!

And without further ado, here is my block:

It’s called “Mare-y Christmas”. I know you’re shocked that my block has a ranch theme . . .

It features applique with a little bit of embroidery embellishment, but it’s not difficult, so don’t be afraid to give it a try. I used the needle-turn method, but you can definitely use fusible if you prefer. Click here to download the PDF instructions and full-sized templates, and get started!

Oh, and before I forget . . .

When I was making my block, I came up with enough stuff to make up an extra block. So . . . I’m offering a block kit to one lucky winner in a give-away. All you have to do to be entered to win the block kit is leave a comment on this post. I’ll pick a winner next Monday, October 17, before the next Quilt-Along block comes out.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you’re enjoying the Quilt-Along!

  38. Yes, you hit the nail on the head when you said we might be surprised by a farm theme block – but I need to tell you how much this particular block means to me. April, 2008, my brother passed; Sept, 2008, dad passed; January 10, 2009 my absolutely very best friend passed; Nov, 2009 mom passed; Feb 2010 hubby had half of left lung removed. After all of this in so short a time, the passing of my bestest friend Beverly affected me the most.Beverly lived in a log cabin house with hubby and three children on 10 a. with horses, goats, and other assorted animal friends. We spent so many enjoyable hours drinking iced tea or fruit juice from my fine chrystal-what else is one going to drink from fine chrystal! We would sit on the old wooden porch in the rear of her log cabin house and just enjoy watching the horses in the fields, talking about gardening, quilting, and generally enjoying each other’s company, putting aside for a short time all our worries.I truly miss her greatly, and the block you donated to the Celebrate Christmas Quilt A-long brings back so many memories of Beverly. Just want to mention also that I only discovered the Christmas Quilt A-long a few hours ago and have been busy attempting to catch up on all the donated blocks – And your’s was the last one available for download-and oh, what a wonderful surprise it was for me to have something to remind me of all the great times Beverly and I shared. don’t think I’ll have time to finish the block to enter into the contest but it really doesn’t matter because I am so happy to have this “special memory” block. Thank you -enjoy the weekend with family, friends and bring out the fine chrystal or best jelly jars, pour yourself a bit of iced apple juice, and sit on that old porch and enjoy life to its fullest. js

  39. wauw prachtige give-away en prachtig blok

  40. I actually love this block. I do a lot of applique and I can picture a whole quilt made of fun blocks like this.

  41. This is too cute! I have an Aunt Mary and we call her “Mare”. We tease her by singing “The Old Grey Mare” song. She will be the recipient of your block, which I’ll make into a little wall hanging for her room in Assisted Living. Mary & her 5 sisters and one brother grew up on a homestead in north central Montana (north of Great Falls). After their Dad died their mom had to sell the land and move to town, but they are all country kids at heart.

  42. Oh missed it by that much lol! Love this pattern… my printer is presently humming along, and I am making two of these for my daughter’s for christmas this weekend! They each have their own horse, and it will be from them! Thank you so much for such a lovely idea!!!!

  43. Oh, Shelly, it is so cute! you are so amazingly talented. I bow to you! I just love it! Have to download it and make it for my BIL sometime!

  44. Thank you for the pattern.
    I love it.
